A red wine of iconic, even saintly, importance for Cantrina, Nepomuceno is made from merlot that achieves an
impressive, natural ripeness on the Lake Garda hills, which gives this wine its striking aromatic character, presaged by the near-impenetrable depth of its purple-garnet appearance. A powerful bouquet reaches an embracing seductiveness, marked by overtones of spice from the wine’s stay in oak, and by merlot’s herbaceous and balsam
contribution. That complex sensory richness carries through onto the palate, which is also notable for its lean mouthfeel, and for the tannins that continue into a finale exhibiting a magisterial balance between sweet and bitter. Its most heavenly partners are red meats and game, especially if slowcooked.
